So you want to start selling digital products on Etsy but aren’t sure exactly what you want to sell, huh?
Picking a niche is one of the first major decisions you’ll make for your Etsy shop and it’s definitely an important one!
You’ll want to pick one niche for your shop so customers know exactly what you offer when they click on your shop.
Niching down versus selling a little bit of everything also makes your shop look more professional, helps the Etsy algorithm better place your shop and allows you to easily bundle up related products.
If you’re one of those people who think that niching down will stifle your creativity, keep in mind you can either pick a type of person to create products for or a certain type of product to create.
For instance, you can sell party invitations for all kinds of events and parties. Birthdays, housewarmings, anniversary parties, you name it…one product across several niches.
Or you can choose to a certain kind of person and cater to them.
For example, you can create planners, checklists, ebooks, and motivational wallpapers for women on a weight loss journey.
When someone clicks into your shop, they should understand exactly who your products are created for.
Knowing your target audience is important because when you try to create for everyone you don’t connect with anyone.
As for me, I am in the party niche. I started creating solely printable party games but eventually began making related products like invitations and favor tags.
FACTORS TO CONSIDER WHEN PICKING YOUR NICHE
Remember that Etsy is a long game so pick a niche that you see yourself enjoying for the next year at a minimum.
If you’re going to get sick of designing business templates because you’re not passionate about it and just think it’ll make you money. Don’t do it!! You’re going to be constantly creating new products and it’s so much easier when you actually have fun designing your products
Pick something you actually enjoy creating and find value in selling.
The goal is to enjoy the work you do AND make money doing it.
TLDR: Pick something that you will enjoy selling and can sell at a decent price point.
Well, now that price has come up…more on that.
Make sure your niche allows you to either sell a singular product for at least $10 or bundle a couple of products up and sell the bundle for $10 or more.
The fastest way to start making at least 1k a month on Etsy is to sell products at a higher price point.
Search potential product ideas on Etsy and see their selling points.
Hot Take: Planners are the go-to product for many Etsy newbies but they have a low price point and require a lot of time to make. There are definitely better niches to get into so don’t think planners are your only option!
TLDR: Pick a niche that will allow you to sell products for at least $3 and bundles for at least $10.
Ensure that there is a current market for it on Etsy.
A big mistake Etsy beginners make is not validating their products. They create products they THINK people will want rather than creating products that are already in-demand.
You can validate your niche idea by literally doing a simple search on Etsy.
Are other shops already selling similar items?
Are their products with a bestseller or popular now badge?
Do people currently have that item in their cart?
If you can say yes, to all these questions you’re in the clear!
I just don’t want you to spend a week creating an ebook on ant farming if that kind of product doesn’t really sell on Etsy.
TLDR: Pick a niche with a proven track record. Make sure your niche is in-demand on Etsy.
Now to the fun stuff…niche ideas! I broke them down into 8 broad niches and then give product ideas for each one.
