PLR products are digital products such as ebooks, courses, planners, or templates that are sold with the rights to edit and rebrand them under your own name and brand.
In other words, they are pre-made products that you can buy and sell as your own.
Examples of PLR Products
People tend to think that PLR products are exclusively ebooks but there is a wide variety of PLR products.
You may also see words like “white-label” or “commercial-use” to describe PLR products.
PLR Ebooks: You can buy ebooks individually or as a bundle across different niches.
Planners and Journals: You can buy all kinds of planners like day planners, home management planners, and self-improvement journals.
Printables: You can buy PLR printables to sell on Etsy or own your blog for passive income
Blog Posts: You can buy article packs to use on your blog or website.
Courses: You can buy a full video course, brand it as it own and start promoting it without spending months building it.
Social Media Posts: You can buy pre-written posts that you can use in your social media captions
Be sure you read the licensing of the PLR products because what you’re allowed to do or modify can differ.
Advantages of Using PLR
Save Time:
PLR products allow you to skip the time-consuming process of creating products from scratch. With PLR products, you can have a product ready to sell in a matter of minutes.
Customizable:
You can make PLR products completely your own and tailor them to fit your brand’s needs. A lot of PLR products can be edited on Canva making them very easy to customize quickly.
Cost-effective:
If you don’t want to design your own products, PLR is a much more affordable option when compared to hiring a graphic designer. I’ve tried to use Fiverr to hire out product design but my low budget meant low-quality results.
You can buy professionally-designed PLR products for a fraction of the cost of hiring someone to create them for you.
Profitable: Selling PLR products can be a profitable business model and turn into a passive income stream! This is a low-investment side hustle that has the potential for high-profit margins since everything is digital.
Disadvantages of Using PLR:
With anything in life, there are pros and cons so allow me to give you some insight on #PLRproblems.
Low Quality:
Some PLR is low-quality and will require a lot of editing to be ready for the market. PLR products can be littered with typos, outdated information or sloppy design, so definitely make sure you’re buying a quality product. Below I’ll share some of my favorite PLR providers.
Outdated Designs:
A lot of PLR looks like it was created back in the 1980s! Look out for PLR planers designed with ugly colors or old-looking script fonts.
Competition:
Since anyone can buy a PLR product, there may be people with the same product as you selling on marketplaces like Etsy. This is why it’s a great idea to edit PLR products to differentiate yourself.

You can buy PLR products like planners, party games, kids’ worksheets or journals to customize and sell on Etsy.
To get started selling on Etsy, you’ll need these couple of things…
- Email address
- Shop name
- Bank account
Etsy charges a 20-cent listing fee for each listing you put up.

If you want to make money with PLR by selling on Etsy, With it is especially important to heavily edit your PLR products before listing them.

Other people may be selling the same PLR products as you and you don’t want your products to look like anyone else’s. As a new shop with no reviews, you will look like the unscrupulous copycat.
We also don’t want to flood the Etsy marketplace with a bunch of lookalike products. That makes for a poor customer experience and Etsy will NOT be happy.
So, how do you make your PLR products different?
Change the colors, change fonts, create your own cover pages, or add your own graphics to PLR products.
My favorite way to customize PLR products is to add a theme to them.
For instance, you can purchase a generic day planner and turn it into a London-themed day planner.
This method is also great because when you niche down and create a themed product, there is less competition!
Product creation and listing are only one small part to be successful in selling PLR products on Etsy.

Selling PLR Products Through Social Media
You can also make money with PLR products by selling them through social media marketing.
This approach is a little different than selling on Etsy because you will have to build an audience and host your products on your own.
You will first want to decide on a niche and who your target audience is. Let’s say you want to help vegetarian moms lose weight.
You would then want to find PLR products within the weight loss niche that could help your target audience. The trick with digital products is to make sure it solves a problem that your ideal customer is struggling with.
Host your digital products on sites like Payhip or Stan Store or create your own website.

Here comes the part where many entrepreneurs struggle…driving traffic to your digital product.
To get traffic to your products, create content that speaks to your ideal customer.
Make Tiktoks, Instagram reels, Pinterest pins, Youtube videos, etc. about your ideal customer’s problems, tips and tricks, and where they can get help if they want it.
Spoiler: That help will be your PLR product!
Don’t try to tackle all the social media platforms at once. You’ll get overwhelmed and burnt out and will want to quit.
Instead, think about which platform your target audience is primarily on and show up there.
Pick one or two platforms and consistently post content for the next 6 months before you throw in the towel.
Remember, that making money online definitely can be done but it doesn’t happen overnight!
Just like with selling PLR on Etsy, you want to make sure you brand your PLR product and give it a fresh look. Make sure you’re actually selling something of value.
Using PLR as a lead magnet
What’s a lead magnet, you ask? It is basically something you give away for free in exchange for someone’s email address.
A lead magnet can be anything from a free ebook, guide, checklist, or template. Ideally, it is something related to other products or services you offer.
I’ve used 2 email providers that I recommend. You can get started with MailerLite for completely free or use FloDesk for prettier email templates.
You really want to be collecting people’s email addresses for a couple of reasons.
- You will own your audience. If your social media account gets banned, you’ll still be able to email your list and make money
- Most people will not buy from you the first time they come across you. Emails allow you to keep putting your offer in front of them.
- You can promote future offers to them
An example of this plan:
You are a money mindset coach and want to get more clients.
You create content about money mindset on Tiktok and buy a PLR money manifestation journal to use as a lead magnet.
You set up a landing page where people can enter their email and download the journal for free.
You add them to your email list and eventually tell them about your money mindset coaching that will help them get the desired goal even faster.
To drive traffic to your landing page, create content on social media that will attract your target audience! You got this!
