Picking your Etsy shop name may feel overwhelming but it doesn’t have to be!
Don’t stress too much over your shop name because Etsy allows you to change your shop name up to 3 times (I think!). It may even be more because I’m pretty sure I changed the name of one of my shops like 5 times and they allowed it.
But if you wanna just get it right the first time here are some tips for picking your Etsy shop name.
Name Your Shop Based on Your Niche
The easiest thing and most useful way to name your shop is based on your niche or what you’re selling. For instance, TopRealtorTemplates, PartyinaFlash or AllurePrintablesStudio.
It’s beneficial to have keywords in your Etsy shop name for SEO purposes. You’ll help the algorithm know exactly what you sell by having the keyword in your shop name.
So, if you’re 100% sure about what you’re going to sell include the keyword in your shop name.
If you’re set on selling templates for real estate agents, TopRealtorTemplates is a better choice than HappyTemplatesCo for instance.
Name Your Shop Based on Your Name
Many people name their shop based on their name or some other pretty word. Think LilyDesignStudio or NirvanaShoppe.
These are general names that give no indication of what you sell.
Choose a name like this if you’re uncertain of what kind of products you want to sell.
This way you can start selling printable wall art then change your mind and start selling school worksheets without having to change your shop name.
Make Your Shop Name Unique
Honestly, not too many customers are going to remember your shop name. When people buy something on Etsy, they’ll usually say “Oh I got this hat from Etsy” without naming the specific shop.
But you do want to make it unique so you can claim the social media handles and domain name in case you ever start your own website.
I can tell you right now that a basic name like “happyprintables” will not be available so get a little more creative.
Check That It’s Available
Before you set your heart on your name, make sure that it’s actually available on Etsy. You can do this in the store opening process.
After you ensure it’s available on Etsy, check to see that the name is available on the major social media platforms.
Don’t Get Sued
Make sure your shop name isn’t trademarked or already being used by another big brand.
